Bubby Upton

Discipline: Eventing

Based In: Newmarket

Bubby, christened Isabelle, is based in Newmarket with her parents and two elder siblings. Newmarket, being the home of horse racing, is a very convenient location as it has all the world’s leading facilities just minutes away from Bubby’s home.

Bubby, who is 19, has ridden all her life and started off with the Newmarket and Thurlow Pony club who she represented at the Pony Club Championships six times, first at the age of nine. Bubby’s first taste of success was in 2014 where she was selected for the Pony European Championships in Millstreet on both her ponies, Alfie XI and Howen Loganberry when she was 15. She went on to win Team and Individual silver at the Europeans on Alfie XI and then after the Europeans Bubby made the hard decision to sell both of her ponies and move onto horses a year early.

She purchased two horses, Fernhill Rockstar an older and more experienced horse and a very promising young 5 year old called Eros DHI. 2015 was a very smooth transition year with Bubby winning the CCI* out in Millstreet on Fernhill Rockstar and coming 2nd in the Under18 Championships at Weston Park. Then in 2016 both Fernhill Rockstar and Eros DHI were selected for the Europeans after coming 2nd and 4th at the British Junior Championships and Ero and Bubby went on to win Team Bronze at the Junior European Championships in Montelibretti with Ero being just seven years old.

At the end of 2016 another exciting horse joined the team called Cola III, who was a relatively inexperienced 6-year-old by Catoki. Then at the start of the 2017 season an ex showjumper called Cannavaro also joined the team. 2017 really was a fairy-tale year for Bubby with Eros DHI being crowned the new Junior European Champion after winning Gold at the Europeans held in Millstreet with a new world record dressage score at the time of 23.9 (FEI MARKING). This score also helped Team GB win Team Silver. Later that year Bubby also took part in her first Advanced with Fernhill Rockstar which they won at Allerton Park and then they finished off their season by coming 3rd in the Advanced at Little Downham.

Bubby’s very exciting 7-year-old lived up to his potential by winning his very first intermediate at Cholmondeley Park and then went on to win the British 7 Year Old Championships at Osberton which was his first CIC**. 2017 was an exciting year for Bubby and her horses.

In 2018 she will aim Cola III, Cannavaro and Eros DHI at the British Young Rider Championships at Houghton Hall with the aim being the GB Young Rider Europeans which are being held at Fontainebleau. Bubby also aims to compete her loyal teammate Fernhill Rockstar in a few CIC***’s throughout the year and will aim Eros DHI and Cola III at Blenheim 8/9yo***.

2018 proved a hugely successful year for Bubby as she completed her first CIC4* (old CIC3*) at 19 years old at Burgham finishing fourth on the super little horse Fernhill Rockstar. Other notable results included Eros DHI winning the CIC3* (old CIC2*) at Belton Horse Trials, having 3 horses in the Top 9 at the CCI3* Under 21 National championships (old CCI2*), Cola III winning the final Great Britain Under 21 Trial. Bubby was selected to represent the Young Riders at the European Championships held in Fontainebleau.

In 2019 Bubby's main aim is to get selected again for the Young Rider European Championships where she would of course love to win some medals! She will also be aiming Cola III for the 8/9yo 4* (old CIC3*) at Blenheim Palace and would love to compete in some Event Rider Masters on Fernhill Rockstar.
